Students will be having a test on the Inca, Maya, and Aztec on Thursday and Friday. It is a two-part test. Attached is the study guide.

After listening to the speeches of the student presidential candidates, please select 3 students to vote for president!
The students have researched the presidential candidates and summarized their positions on many topics including education, immigration, and the economy. The students will now learn how to write a speech using the knowledge of the government and persuasive writing techniques, such as appealing to emotion.

Tuesday, October 4 @ 8:30 am - Senator Jehlen is coming to speak to the students. She will be answering questions and discussing with the students her role as a Senator in Massachusetts. Wednesday, October 5 @ 8:30 am - Congressman Capuano is coming to speak to the students about his role in the federal government and answer student questions. Friday, October 21 - We are going to the Edward M. Kennedy Institute in Boston. Students will get to engage in interactive exhibits and debate a real bill in a model senate chamber. Students received their social studies test yesterday.

I will be giving a retest on Friday during class for any student with a P or N. I will be doing social studies review in the morning on Thursday and Friday at 7:30 am to provide support on concepts. If you have any questions please let me know!

In Social Studies we are beginning our Presidential Candidate Research Project on Tuesday. Students will be researching both candidates with a focus on 3 major issues from both candidates. They will be researching the information only from the candidates websites and the debates. They will be working on research skills including organizing information from research and summarizing research. Attached are the rubrics for the project and more detailed information. Our first Social Studies Test will be on Monday, September 26. Students will have a study guide to review the material over the weekend. Also, the study guide is attached. The students learned about the branches of the federal government. After the test, we will be beginning a research project about the presidential candidates.
